About INVOLC and IAVCEI

International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth’s Interior was founded in 1919, originally as the International Association of Volcanology (IAV).

IAVCEI focuses on research of volcanology and mitigation of volcanic disasters. Scientists also participate in IAVCEI research in closely related disciplines, such as igneous geochemistry and petrology, geochronology, volcanogenic mineral deposits, and the physics of the generation and ascent of magmas in the upper mantle and crust.

International Network for VOLcanology Collaboration (INVOLC) was officially inaugurated as a network of IAVCEI during the centennial celebration in July 2019.

INVOLC focuses on stimulating the participation and inclusion of volcano scientists working in resource-limited contexts into the global volcanological community
